Sean Easton steps back from senior coaching

May 17, 2024

With mixed emotions, Raiders Ice Hockey can announce that Head Coach Sean Easton is stepping down from senior team coaching roles.

Sean moved across from home club Chelmsford when Raiders were seeing out their tenure of Lee Valley in the 2017-2018 season and has been an incredible asset to the Raiders ever since.

His effort and dedication have been a vital part of the Raiders growth from a struggling third tier nomad team to one that proved capable of beating anyone in the second tier (National League). That achievement with one of the lowest budgets in the league is a significant one.

We are therefore both saddened by his move, and grateful for the incredible service and friendship given. We offer our sincere and heart felt thanks to Sean, and wish him every luck and success in his ventures on and off ice. We will all miss his professional approach, undoubted talent, effort and dedication.

Sean gave some insight into his decision :-

“I am gutted and sad to have to announce this and it was not a easy decision. Having to tell the players who are all close friends with the bond we have created over the years that I am stepping down, broke me.

“Those that know me, I am extremely passionate and will be all in to ensure the best product. Being one of the only coaches in the league that’s not a full time coach and having to also spend time on my day job, it’s become too much. Not sure if anyone really knows the time that has to go into the role plus all the extras that I done behind the scenes,  to ensure everything is ready to go.

“A big thank you to everyone behind the scenes for your hard work and a thank you to the back office staff for allowing the dream of national league hockey to be a reality.

“My decision was to help create change and drive to allow those with the ambition to make it succeed. Romford can be a big club in the borough of London and I hope to see it in lights.

“I will still be doing my day to day job so looking forward to seeing everyone around the rink some day.”

Raiders therefore look to the future and filling of the head coach role. The loss of such a vital part of the team clearly comes with repercussions and the need for a review of the entire structure for a long term healthy and strong club.

Work is underway in that respect, and we will provide updates as soon as worthy news is available.
