Homecoming for Max Lewis!

Homecoming for Max Lewis!

20 year old defence man, Max Lewis, returns to English ice hockey after spending the last 4 years playing across the pond. Joining the Buccs on a two way, Head Coach Ethan said “Max is a quick and skilful player, who I think will play an important role in our team this season. He’s a familiar face to a few of the guys, having spent his junior career across Chelmsford and Romford, and I think he’ll fit in perfectly with the team. Being on a two way, will allow Max to gain lots of ice time and confidence, but also gain experience in the national league. I’m looking forward to seeing Max in action when the season begins!”

When asked about signing for the Buccaneers, Max commented “I’m excited to join the Buccaneers and Raiders ice hockey teams and to be back home, where I can focus on developing both on and off the ice, whilst being surrounded by familiar faces. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to two strong programs and continue pushing my game to the next level. I’m looking forward to the season ahead and the challenges that come with it.”

Megas Kanys Returns

SIGNING ANNOUNCEMENT: MEGAS KANYS RETURNS ON TWO-WAY DEAL WITH RAIDERS & BUCCANEERS

The Romford Buccaneers are proud to announce the return of defenceman Megas Kanys for the 2025/26 season on a two-way contract with the Romford Raiders.

Now entering his fifth season as a senior Romford player, the 20-year-old blueliner — a homegrown player who has steadily climbed the ranks to become one of the Buccaneers’ most dependable and impactful defencemen.

Megas’ growth over recent seasons has been clear for all to see. Calm under pressure, physical when needed, and smart in possession, he has become a mainstay in our top four defence and continues to set the tone for our back end. His consistency and leadership on the ice make him one of the key pillars in this Buccaneers side.

This two-way agreement gives Megas the chance to step up once again with the Raiders while continuing to be a big part of the Buccs’ ambitions in NIHL1 — a testament to his work ethic, talent, and the strength of Romford Hockey’s development structure.

Head Coach Ethan James commented “Im looking forward to working with Megas this season, he has a good attitude and always works hard. It was evident that last season he took a step up in his all-round game and I’m keen to help him improve. Being on a two way will only help Megas keep on developing!”

We are excited to have Megas back for another year, and we look forward to seeing him continue his journey as both a Buccaneer and a Raider.

3 More Sign On

Kazaks, Maskalans & Woolmore commit to the Buccaneers for 2025/26

The Romford Buccaneers are delighted to confirm that Artjoms Kazaks, Nils Maskalans, and Shay Woolmore have all officially signed for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

All three forwards will also be on two-way contracts with the Romford Raiders, highlighting the strength of the development pathway within the Romford Hockey structure.

Artjoms Kazaks enters his fourth season in Buccaneers colours, a player who’s grown in confidence and stature year after year. Now 19, Kazaks is coming off a strong campaign and will continue to be a key figure. With a full season ahead and more experience under his belt, we’re expecting big things from this talented dual-national.

Nils Maskalans made an impact in his first season with the Buccs after joining from Belfast. The 17-year-old Latvian showed his offensive talent with 27 points in 31 games, along with an impressive ability to stir things up on the ice. He’s fast, fearless, and focused – a player with the skills to be a game-changer.

Shay Woolmore returns to the Buccs as one of the most exciting local prospects in recent years. Having spent a season in Austria with Okhanagan he rejoined Romford U18s on his return in 2023. Shay made an immediate impact when stepping up to senior hockey. He broke into the Buccaneers lineup at just 16 and made his Raiders debut last season. Shay will be looking to play a big part in our 2025/26 campaign.

All three signings represent exactly what the Buccaneers are about – creating opportunity, encouraging growth, and pushing players to the next level. We are proud to see their hard work rewarded with Raider’s recognition, but even prouder to have them locked in and ready to battle for the Buccaneers.

Head Coach Ethan commented “I’m excited to work with these two way guys. Having seen them at training and in game situations last season, they have a lot of potential. Hopefully with hard work and focusing on the finer details of the game they will reach the next level they are keen to achieve.”

Sonny & Max Are Back

Romford Buccaneers Secure Netminding Duo for 2025/26 Season

The Romford Buccaneers are delighted to announce that goaltenders Sonny Phillips and Max Van Mullem have signed for the 2025/26 season.

Phillips, 28, returns for his third year as a Buccaneer after making the move across Essex from long-time rivals Chelmsford Chieftains in 2022. A fan favourite for both his big saves and bigger personality, Sonny has been a cornerstone between the pipes since joining Romford and brings with him a wealth of experience.

Joining him in the crease is 17-year-old Max Van Mullem, who will be with the Buccaneers on a two-way agreement with the Romford Raiders. Max has already shown on many occasions that he has the ability to be a starting goalie, pulling off saves beyond his years. This hot prospect will undoubtedly benefit from working alongside Raiders netminding duo Cole Ceci and Owen Rider, making him one to watch for the future.
